![]() Smok Alien Firmware Update
I've been with O2 Broadband for about 10 months now and it's been working fine for most of that time but now the Router they gave me with the package Thompson TG585v7 7.4.20.3 keep resetting itself several times a day. It doesn't feel like it's over heating and had it on it side standing up to maximise the amount of surface area in contact with the air and even upside down to allow it to cool better, but the problem keeps happening. I've tried resetting it to defaults and still seems to reset itself several times a day, even when all I am doing is basic surfing and email (i.e. No downloading) The Firmware I have on it is version 7.4.20.3 - is there a newer firmware available that will allow me to update the router and perhaps solve this problem and will it work with O2 Broadband? I've seen references to Firmware updates for Be Broadband, etc but I don't want to try and flash my router and find out that the O2 Broadband stops working altogether because it requires very specific Firmware on the Router to log into the network.
Canon Firmware Update
If there is a newer firmware can someone please post the link to it. I've also heard mention of a recovery utility but can't seem to find it anywhere cans someone give exact details of what this is? Did you see if O2 pushed a firmware update to your box? Just a bit of an update - I found this link which helped me upgrade my router firmware from 7.4.20.3 to 7.4.20.4 I have no idea what differences are between 7.4.20.3 and 7.4.20.4 but it seems that 7.4.20.4 came out way back in April 2009 I got my O2 Broadband around January 2009 But reading up on some forums I hear that O2 pushed 7.4.20.5 firmware to people? My Router is on 24/7 so I'd have expected to see a firmware upgrade, or is this not possible if you've changed the default password on the router for O2 to do a remote update of firmware? Anyway - do people think 7.4.20.4 should solve the disconnection problems?
Only difference I've noticed so far is that I'm connecting at a slightly higher rate Uptime: 0 days, 0:35:12 Bandwidth (Up/Down) kbps/kbps: 1,243 / 17,259. It's been almost a week since I upgraded the firmware on my O2 ADSL Router from 7.4.20.3 to 7.4.20.4 and it's certainly become a bit more stable since the upgrade. Less rebooting. Is there a better / newer firmware then 7.4.20.4 specifically made for O2 Routers rather then BE? Also is there a way to control what other computers have access to on the router? For ym own PC onthe Ethernet LAN I want access to everything but for other people in the house using WiFi I want to restrict them to web and email only.

Thomson - TG585 v7 (Thomson Firmware) Port Forwarding Guide For automatic port forwarding try Step 1. This router/modem forwards based on computer name and not ip address. So there is no need to set a static ip. Some routers & modems work best with port forwarding if you have a static local IP. Manually set your network interface card ( NIC ) to use a static ip address. You can also download my FREE tool to set it for you. Open your favorite web browser and input your routers ip address in the address bar.
